WAEV TANZANIA PROJECT
This project is done in conjunction with Cal Poly’s Appropriate Technology Class, Fall 2020.

EROSION PREVENTION
The community of Lendikinya, Tanzania, is facing extreme erosion which limits the biodiversity in the area. The practice of herding cattle and the overgrazing from goats have both contributed to the mass erosion and barren land. We are designing a project description and execution plan in order to solve the erosion problem that will include suggestions for erosion mitigation and a multiphase plan.

OBSTACLES
Funds are needed to implement a fence to protect the land from erosion.
The extremely eroded areas are community spaces, so the community community has access to any resources added to the space.
Theft is common in the community space.
Goats are dangerous to any new plant growth attempted.

SOLUTIONS TO OBSTACLES
Planting poisonous plants to deter the goats
Plant trees with less obvious usage so they will not be stolen from the space
Jatropha tree (seen in picture to the left) has no obvious uses that will make it desired by the community
If all the poisonous plants are incorporated, the expensive fence may not be needed. This would save a significant amount of money on the project.
